Launch of the first Montreux Jazz Festival and the first European Jazz Bands competition. Duration: 3 days from June 16 to 18 with a pictures exhibition, vinyl exchange corner, a drums workshop with Jack DeJohnette, Robert Zildjian, George Chorafas and Klaus Weiss. Organized by the Montreux Tourist Office.  Participating at this first editon was : Charles Lloyd Quartet with Keith Jarrett, Cecil McBee and Jack DeJohnette.
