
From July 1 to 16 it’s the second Festival edition in the new Congress and Convention Centre and grows to a success with no precedence: The Auditorium Stravinski and the newly inaugurated Miles Davis Hall welcome 68,000 music lovers. A new record. The marvelous summer weather attracts more than a folk of 120,000 people joining the Off-Festival on the lakeside and at the cafés. The prestigious Verve label celebrates its 50th anniversary with a 2-day party, inviting all their living legends. An entire weekend is dedicated to Brazilian music, including a tropical cruise on Lake Geneva, aboard the « Bahia Boat ». The historical Latin Rock Night gathers for the very first time the chart toppers from Spain, Mexico and Argentina on the same stage. The 28th edition's stars are—among others—Bob Dylan, Natalie Cole, Stephan Eicher or Paul Rodgers & Friends (singer of Rock band Free in 1968 and Bad Company, later joins up Queen in 2004). Paul is accompanied by Neil Schon (ex Santana and Journey) Jason Bonham (son of Led Zeppelin drummer) and Brian May (Queen guitarist). Herbie Hancock, Betty Carter, Michel Petrucciano, John Scofield & Pat Metheny are on stage with Steve Swallow and Bill Stewart on drums, Wynton Marsalis, Ray Hargrove, Joshua Redman, Funk-Jazz with Marcus Miller (Wah Wah Johnson as guest guitarist), Luther Allison and Johnny Clyde Copeland for the Blues part, Van Morrison, Keziah Jones is on stage with a bass player and a drummer. Rory Gallagher is back with a Blues Band. Ray Bryant and Randy Weston both offer a beautiful solo piano performance and many more young talents are present such as Daniela Mercury (BRA) and The Big Geraniums (IRL), proclaimed revelation of the year.
